Why I Chose Pump Over P90X2 – For Now…

I felt like I needed to write something up on why I decided to put P90X2 on hold for now. Yes, I was really going to stat P90X2 on January 2nd, but I have to tell you, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I pre-ordered it because I wanted to save with free shipping and part of me likes having the latest things first. So yes, in the beginning, before it arrived, I was excited to start it!

Then a few things changed. My body started to protest waking up at 5am to workout. Now it wanted to sleep in until 6am maybe even 6:15am. My body also started to feel beat up doing extreme workouts like P90X, Insanity and Asylum. I’m not knocking these programs at all, but I had done them non stop since February 2010 with one break to do a 30 day round of Brazil Butt Lift in December 2010. So after a while I think I just had it. I started getting back into Pilates. Pilates has always been my passion. I taught classes starting in 2003. What I love about Pilates is the fact you can get a great workout in a short amount of time. I also discovered a new love, kettlebells! Kettlebells are a great way to strengthen and tone your entire body in a short amount of time. And then I incorporated some Brazil Butt Lift workouts. Again, great workout in a short amount of time. So I found out that I wanted to get great workouts in a short amount of time per day. I felt so much better getting more sleep & working out at 6:15am instead of 5am. Sleep is one of those things that so many people overlook as part of your overall fitness. Without enough sleep, your body will rebel and no matter how much exercise you do, its not going to cooperate if its ready to hit a wall.

So in December, after previewing & trying the first 2 workouts of P90X2, I quickly decided that this wasn’t for me at this time. I needed something that could get the job done and get me back upstairs fast to make breakfast for the kids. Everything I kept hearing about Les Mills Pump led me to believe this was the workout for me. Fast paced, fast workouts and a great nutrition guide.

So far I’m almost at the end of week 2 and I LOVE IT!  I love that it so different than P90X & Insanity. Its fun! You work the entire body, which has always been the way I prefer to train. And the nutrition guide is so much easier for me to follow than P90X or even P90X2.  Easier recipes and more “real world” recipes. I followed the 7 Day Jump Start for the first week of the workout. So far I’ve lost 5 lbs! 2 weeks ago I bought 3 new pairs of jeans. Cute one like Miss Me, Jessica Simpson and Lucky Brand. I needed to have them hemmed. Well today I picked them up from the tailor and they all are a little looser! I’m not complaining because I’d rather my jeans fit loose than too tight!

Do I recommend Les Mills Pump? I totally recommend it! Its especially good for people who don’t want to workout for over 55 minutes. The workouts range from 20 to 50 minutes, and there is even a bonus Les Mills Core workout that is killer and only 10 minutes.

I highly suggest adding Shakeology into your day too. Listen, I’m not going to lie. Its seems expensive when you hear the cost up front because it is! But when you break it down by cost per serving, its easier to swallow (no pun intended). And I recently took a 2 month break from Shakeology. I can tell you my moods got moodier and I got crankier. Not good for a mom of 4. So don’t poo-poo the idea of adding Shakeology into your Les Mills (or any other Beachbody workout) program.

Well that’s my review so far and my explanation on why I chose to hold off on P90X2. I’m thinking I will be able to handle that workout during the summer when the kids are out of school and I don’t need to rush them out the door.
