My life revolves around helping people get fit, lose weight, be healthier and happier and have better quality of life. But who really cares these days? The overweight, over-stressed friend who dropped dead at 54 of a heart attack in the rest room at work? No, he didn’t and now his life was cut short. How about the obese teenager whose sedentary lifestyle and diet caused them to become obese and led to a diagnosis of diabetes. Do they care enough to know that weight loss and exercise could help them reduce the risk of developing complications of diabetes such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, and leg ulcers. Probably not. They will just seek medications because that is certainly easier than changing bad habits.
I could go on, but what would be the point of talking about people who have paid or will pay the consequences of not caring about losing weight. If you are obese, there will be a consequence. Period.
So let’s focus on those of you who would like to see or hear weight loss success stories because you need the motivation or inspiration to lose weight. No scare tactics here, just real people telling their real stories about successfully losing weight and keeping it off. Oh, and if you are looking for stories about surgeries or miracle cures or weight loss drugs, don’t bother reading anymore. These weight loss success stories were written by people who exercised effectively, ate nourishing foods and made positive lifestyle changes.
Randy Lowry was raised in the South and loved good wholesome food and lots of it. After ballooning up to 250 pounds, from his daily routine of coming home from work, eating dinner, and then falling asleep on the couch while watching TV and seeing pictures of himself on vacation at the beach. Unwilling to made a significant change other than cutting out snacks and soda, he did manage to lose 20 pounds in 2 years, but he was still overweight and out of shape. Then in 2007, with his wife’s help, he finally made a commitment to change and lost 50 pounds in 6 months and cut his body fat in half to 15%. Jocelyn Davidson was depressed, overweight, and completely unhealthy. In fact, she could hardly look at herself in the mirror anymore. Two pregnancies had taken a toll on her body, and she was finding it hard to bounce back. Low energy levels made taking care of her children extremely difficult. Jocelyn napped every day, drank large amounts of soda, and smoked a pack or more of cigarettes a day. She could hardly function, let alone give her daughters the love and attention they deserved. Dallas Carter had been big his entire life. Since childhood, he had always been larger than other kids, and as his age increased, so did the weight difference between him and his peers. Dallas had a big heart, but he put it under a lot of strain; he ate fast food four to five times a day, drank sodas constantly, and enjoyed the least nutritious snacks of his native Hawaii. Working out, or for that matter, any sort of physical activity, was far too draining and painful for Dallas to commit to a healthier lifestyle. A visit to the doctor revealed that he was 355 pounds, had a dangerously high body fat percentage, and was certainly on track of developing diabetes, if his unhealthy habits continued. But none of this new information was quite enough for Dallas to change his ways. It was actually one of Dallas’ lean, active friends who introduced him to Beachbody® and now he is 185 pounds lighter. Pam DiPianto had always been the chubby girl who struggled with her weight. While she was growing up, eating food became the way she tried to cope with the pain of being abandoned by her father when she was a baby. During moments of insecurity, she reached for food to pacify her feelings. Over the years, she developed what she refers to as the fine art of masking her body fat with carefully crafted outfits. With a knack for layering, Pam would camouflage the rolls that seemed to be multiplying on her body. She tried every diet plan and exercise program out there, but nothing seemed to work. It took the death of her father and the depression of her son to commit to “do right by” her family and to “do right by” herself. Listen to Pam’s moving story by clicking here.
I will add more success stories soon…
