Running With Coyotes

On my 45:00 run in the foothills today, I saw two people and five coyotes.  One of the people was near the end of the run and she warned me that there was blood on the trail ahead.  I’ve had people say that there were rattlesnakes or coyotes, but never blood.  She said that there were four or five coyotes and maybe a wolf (not likely) and that there were birds circling overhead.  Sure enough there were and the trail that I took gave me a view of the bloody trail that she mentioned.  The coyotes were running away from me, but that didn’t keep me from looking back a few times.

Years ago when I trained in the foothills every Thursday morning with a group of ultra runners.  I miss those runs and those people (I saw two of them last Sunday at the Egg Nog Jog 5K) and neither of them are running like they used to and like I still want to be.  Both have knee issues and one can’t run at all.  After 50 years of running, I am still blessed to be able to run when I want to and 2017 might finally be the year when I can actually accomplish some things again in running.

If you are here in Albuquerque, I would like to suggest that we start a group run from the Bear Canyon Trailhead.  You take Spain east to the end and then make a right onto High Desert Place.  The parking lot is on the left just after you turn.  I am going to aim for 7:15 on Sunday mornings, so look for me there.

If you are a Polar heart rate monitor user, I’ve been with Polar for over 30 years.  I am a Polar Ambassador and I can help you get the most out of your Polar.  I am currently using the Polar M400, which I love.  Here’s a link to my Albuquerque Polar group.
